Why are some natural medicine products “practitioner only”? How are they different to the ones you can buy off the shelf in the supermarket or chemist?
There are countless ranges of nutritional supplements on the market at the moment. The chemist, health food stores, and even the supermarket shelves are all filled with similar products! So how are you to know which supplements will work for you and your specific needs? One supplement may not necessarily be a one size fits all. This is why, for example, I recommend different magnesium forms for my clients with migraine. A consultation with a qualified healthcare practitioner who has specifically trained in vitamins, minerals and herbs (such as a naturopath) can assist you in determining your individual nutritional requirements, and how to best meet them. Recommendations from your healthcare practitioner for meeting requirements may include dietary changes, as well as supplements, particularly when higher levels of nutrients are required. Some practitioner only supplements are more potent, or contain a unique list of ingredients which simply cannot be found in off the shelf products. It is essential to find a practitioner that you feel really comfortable with and trust implicitly with your health. Once you find this practitioner it is in the best interest of your ongoing healthcare to stick with them… and to have regular check-ups, even when you don’t feel sick. This will ensure that your practitioner can help you to maintain your health and vitality and prevent any hiccups that may occur with your health. Regular check-ups also ensure that your nutritional prescription can be altered according to your body’s changing needs. Qualified Practitioners have spent years studying the biochemical intricacies of the body, and the many aspects of health and illness. These are the only people equipped with the knowledge required to offer professional advice about nutritional supplementation. They are also professionally obliged and committed to ensuring you attain, and maintain optimal health and wellbeing.
